About Nexus AI4S Community

Who we are, why we exist, how we're governed — a self-introduction letter to the community.

Background

Why we do this

AI for Science is one of the most important research-paradigm shifts of the past decade. But the people who actually bring AI into the lab are those who understand both code and science.

Nexus AI4S Community was born from a small developer meetup in 2023. The founding team came from industry AI engineers, young scholars in computational chemistry / materials / life science at top-tier Chinese universities, and technical evangelists from instrument OEMs. We found that the bottleneck for AI in the lab isn't algorithms — it's the "last mile": instrument SDKs, data alignment, reproducibility, cross-team collaboration.

So we decided to make this a community.

Mission

Where we're headed

Build an open, transparent, industry-academia co-governed AI4S toolchain and community — so that every lab can use reproducible, governable AI Agents.

Our three long-term commitments:

  • Forever open-source all code and training data under Apache 2.0
  • Always put "governance transparency" ahead of "commercialization"
  • Always serve frontline researchers first, not capital narratives
Governance
